George Ovashvili is a Georgian film director, writer, and producer whose work has been widely recognized across major international festivals. He studied film directing at the Georgian State University of Cinema and Theatre and later continued his training at the New York Film Academy at Universal Studios in Hollywood.

He made his directorial debut with the short films Wagonnet and Eye Level, before gaining international recognition with his first feature The Other Bank, which premiered in the Generation section of the Berlin International Film Festival and received over 50 international awards, including a nomination for the European Film Awards.

His second feature, Corn Island, was awarded the Crystal Globe at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival and was shortlisted for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. He completed his trilogy exploring Georgia’s recent history with Khibula, which premiered in the main competition at Karlovy Vary.

Ovashvili’s later work includes Beautiful Helen, which premiered at the Trieste Film Festival, and The Moon is a Father of Mine, selected for the main competition of the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival. His films are characterized by visual precision, restrained storytelling, and a strong sense of place.

In 2018, he founded Wagonnet Films, a production company based in Tbilisi, focusing on international co-productions and the development of projects by emerging and established filmmakers.
