Sevar Ivanov is a Bulgarian actor whose work spans film, television and theatre, supported by a broad artistic and physical training and an unusually extensive background in the performing arts. Born in Sofia in 1993, he graduated from the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts (NATFA) in Sofia in 2016, where he subsequently completed a Master's degree in Arts Management. He also holds a PhD in Arts Management from the University of National and World Economy in Sofia.
His screen work includes the historical television series War of Letters, in which he played Teophilact, and the television series Patyat Na Chestta. His recent film credits include Gundi: Legend of Love, directed by Dimitar Dimitrov, The Therapy, directed by Stanislav Hristov, and the short films Anyone and Everyone and The Executioner. His earlier screen work includes 105 Minutes: Sofia – The History of the City, in which he portrayed Vasil Levski.
Alongside his acting career, Sevar has developed extensive experience within the wider performing arts sector. In 2023, he was a Fulbright Scholar undertaking Arts Administration Research at Baruch College, City University of New York, where his research focused on performing arts management in the United States and the possibilities for adapting established practices to the Bulgarian context. His academic and professional work in arts management has developed alongside, rather than separately from, his career as an actor.
Sevar has continued his acting training through a Lee Strasberg workshop at the Lee Strasberg Institute in Sofia in 2024. His performance background encompasses stage acting, musical theatre, improvisation and voice work, while his physical training includes stage combat, fencing, sword fighting, horse riding, rock climbing, swimming, football, weightlifting, ice skating and motorcycle riding. He also has experience in ballet, jazz, folk, Latin American and disco dance, choreography and musical theatre, and sings a cappella, musical and pop styles.
He works in Bulgarian, English, Portuguese and Spanish, with American and Russian accents, and has European Union working rights. He is based in Sofia and has a housing option in Thessaloniki.
Sevar Ivanov brings together the discipline of a formally trained actor with an unusually broad understanding of performance, movement and the wider cultural field in which actors work. His career to date reflects an ability to move between screen, stage and different areas of the performing arts while continuing to develop his work as an actor.
